1960 Survivor Corvette – 11,870 Original Miles

It’s hard to believe that you could find any 55-year-old car with 11,870 miles on it. That’s fewer miles than most people accumulate in a single year on their family car. But how cool is it that the car is a completely unrestored survivor 1960 Corvette?

The original owner of this car ordered it from the dealer with the top-of-the-line 290 hp fuel-injected 283 engine and a three-speed manual transmission. It was apparently delivered with a lower-horsepower fuel-injected engine that was not a satisfactory switch for the buyer. The car ended up being sent back to the St. Louis factory that manufactured Corvettes in those days. The factory swapped in a dual-quad 283 with 290 hp and also made modifications to other items particular to this powerplant.

The now-satisfied owner proceeded to drive the car for eight years – apparently mostly street-racing, racking up only 11,100 miles. In 1968, for unknown reasons, he stopped driving the car and put it into storage in a shed on his property. In 1986, a neighbor, who had helped the owner with the car a few times, ended up buying it for $7500. The current owner has added only 760 miles and has kept the car in the same condition it was in when he purchased it. He actually rode in the car when it was brand-new, so it must seem strange that he now owns this same car, which is regarded as the most original, lowest-mileage 1960 Corvette in existence.
